A Saturday at SoWa Open Market
SoWa't is the deal?
I spent my Saturday afternoon in Boston's South End to find what the buzz was about. The SoWa Art + Design District is a vibrant community built on the mission to support small businesses and entrepreneurs. The open market, now in its 14th season, is a celebration of sorts for local artists, musicians, chefs, and other vendors. The area, once a neglected collection of warehouses, now turned into an artistic lifestyle destination. There is something special about putting passionate individuals together in an intimate venue. I found many were more than willing to share their stories and explain what makes their products so unique.
If you're anything like me (an impulsive buyer), you won't leave empty handed. I purchased a beautiful silk scarf made in India. TIP: Try haggling with the seller for a better deal. The silk scarf was $40 and I was able to call it mine for $10. It's worth a try! There is something for everyone whether it be the food trucks or small boutiques. This little gem far from any university campus is the perfect getaway for a few hours. Each week there are different events that switch things up and keep you coming back. This weekend they are hosting a Thread Exchange to support Hurricane Maria relief efforts. Bring in your gently used clothes and leave with some fresh items for your closet. All of the unclaimed clothing will be donated to those in need. Take the trip and immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind experience before the end of the month. It's a must see!
The SoWa Open Market is open every Saturday and Sunday, April 29-October 29, from 10am-4pm.
